In collaboration with the school board, students, and wider community, Kamo Marsh has helped create a school environment that reflects and celebrates the strong bicultural focus of Te Waka Unua’s learning programme.
Integral to this was the thoughtful connection of the school to the nearby Ōpāwaho/ Heathcote River and by honouring traditional Māori pathways that pass through the area the landscape has reinforced a deep sense of place and cultural narrative.
Our design also included vibrant and durable outdoor play areas and surfaces which foster student engagement and instil a sense of pride in the school’s outdoor spaces.
Kamo Marsh provided detailed design documentation, cultural landscape guidance, and contract observation services throughout the various stages of the project, ensuring that both practical and cultural design intentions were realised on site.
