The Te Pae Convention & Exhibition Centre is a key anchor project in Christchurch’s rebuild, delivering significant economic and cultural benefits to the city.
Designed in collaboration with Woods Bagot, Warren and Mahoney and Kamo Marsh Landscape Architects, the project draws inspiration from Ngāi Tahu cultural narratives and the traditional forms of kōwhaiwhai patterning.
The landscape forms a threshold between the surrounding public realm and the more private Convention Centre, deliberately blurring boundaries to encourage public use and create seamless integration into the urban fabric.
By day, the spaces offer calm, accessible connections through the city. By night, impressive architectural lighting highlights the landscaping and cultural motifs, bringing the centre to life as a vibrant civic landmark.
